National Operations Support Manager

Drew, how did you begin your career with Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

I began working with Woolworths Petrol as an Assistant Manager in 2001 after spending 13 years in supermarkets. I was appointed as site manager shortly afterwards and spent 18 months as a site manager before going on relief as Petrol Specialist in May 2003

Why did you want to work for Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

The opportunity to work with small teams in was very appealing. I also believed there were many opportunities for advancement in Petrol given the rapid expansion in site numbers in a short time frame.

What is the best part of your job?

Working through problems and delivering solutions that provide increased efficiencies for all staff at all levels and seeing the delivered solutions work as well or better than expected

What sort of challenges do you face as the National Operations Support Manager?  

Prioritising all the requests from across the division and from other divisions to ensure tasks are completed as required. Also keeping track of all the different projects that are currently in progress

What would you say about the career opportunities available at Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

There are many career opportunities within Petrol, and it all comes down to how much you apply yourself and how far you want to go. Most Petrol Specialists across the country started as site staff and worked their way into site management.

Jason, how did you begin your career with Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

I started my career with Woolworths Petrol at a site in central Sydney 7 years ago as a casual console operator.

 

Why did you want to work for Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

Being a large company, I knew there would be opportunities for career progression; I was also attracted to the fast-paced nature of the business.

What is the best part of your job?

Being part of a great team that supports me, & learning new things every day.

What would you say about the career opportunities available at Woolworths/Safeway Petrol? 

The career opportunities are greater now then what they were 18 months ago, Petrol has really grown from when I first started, the opportunities are there if you are willing to put the hard yards in.

Petrol Specialist

Kifah, how did you begin your career with Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

My career with Woolworths/Safeway began when I decided to apply for a new petrol site that was opening in Victoria as a console operator. I was working in the supermarket and wanted to work all my hours in one department. 

 

Why did you want to work for Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

I had also just purchased my first home. I had a large mortgage and decided I wanted to set some goals for myself and achieve them. I wanted to feel proud that I was able to stand on my own two feet.  

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is the people. I get a "Big Kick" out of guiding, mentoring and seeing staff progress, grow and succeed in their career. My job is never boring. Something different happens every day. I enjoy the challenges it gives me.

What sort of challenges do you face as a Petrol Specialist?

The biggest Challenge is probably the people part of my job. No two people are the same. Each person is to be managed differently. People learn at different paces and different styles. 

What would you say about the career opportunities available at Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

The Woolworths/Safeway Petrol business is still a growing and there is plenty of opportunity. The career opportunities are excellent. Woolworths/Safeway Petrol strives to promote internally and reward those who go beyond.

Site Manager

Chris, how did you begin your career with Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?  

I began my career as a casual console operator in northern NSW. When my site began to trade, 24hrs I started doing the night shift, which helped me, develop my skills in different areas of the business.

Why did you want to work for Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?  

It started out as a part time job for me as I was travelling around Australia then I decided I wanted a career not just a part time job. I approached my manager at the time and expressed my interest in an assistant manager role. Once I was in the assistant manager role, I continued to develop my skills in all aspects of the business and over a 12 month period became competent in all areas of managing the business.

What is the best part of your job?  

Three things come to mind, customer interaction, teamwork and achieving the goals set out by my Petrol Specialist. There is nothing better than achieving a goal and knowing all your hard work has paid off!

What sort of challenges do you face as a Site Manager?

When we have a forecourt full of customers and we need to maintain stock levels in the shop, especially over long weekends!

What would you say about the career opportunities available at Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?
  
I have been with the company for six years, as soon as I expressed interest in pursuing a management career my manager supported and assisted me in achieving my goals. I have discovered the in Woolworths Petrol if you put the effort in you will be rewarded with training and development opportunities.

Assistant Manager

Jill, how did you begin your career with Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?  

I started as a casual console operator at a store in Western Sydney. I expressed to my manager that I was interested in learning different aspects of the business, so I began training in our ordering and cash management systems,  this helped me learn about how the site operated.  

Why did you want to work for Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

I choose Woolworths/Safeway Petrol because of the opportunities they offer not only in Petrol but also across other brands in the business.

What is the best part of your job?

I love serving customers and getting to know our regular customers that come in every week to get their fuel.  I also love the diversity my job offers from filling and facing the shop floor to serving customers and completing orders. I love walking out of the Site at the end of the day knowing it looks great.

What sort of challenges do you face as an Assistant Manager for Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?  

The greatest challenge and reward I have is to make sure every customer leaves my site happy!

What would you say about the career opportunities available at Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

The career opportunities within Woolworth's petrol are endless. Our business is growing rapidly and new opportunities are created as a result, if you put your mind to it, the sky is the limit!

Console Operator

Caroline, how did you begin your career with Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

I started working for Woolworths/Safeway Petrol 18 months ago. Previously I was a stay at home mum. After my children started school, I wanted a part time job with flexible working hours.

Why did you want to work for Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

It is close to home and the hours are great, I can still do I the things I need to for my kids and work flexible hours that suit me and my boss.

What is the best part of your job?

The people I work with, they are supportive and made my transition back into the workforce that little bit easier, plus it's great to be learning new skills.

What sort of challenges do you face as a Console Operator?

I work at a busy site, it's sometimes challenging to get the customers served and keep the site stocked and presentable.

What would you say about the career opportunities available at Woolworths/Safeway Petrol?

I believe the opportunities are there for anybody who puts their mind to it, I believe I'm going to have a very rewarding career with the company.
